You can use any size song in this program.

Open Goldwave. File>Open> Any type of song file will work

You can hit play and fast forward to find the "best" part or "favorite" part of the song.

The first time you click on the timeline it marks the start of the song. When you want the song to stop, right click on the timeline and hit "set finish marker." The music will stop playing there and the music and the music selected will only be played. To clear your selection right click and hit "select all."

*Select about 20 seconds.

Having your highlited music press the "trim" key on the toolbar to deleted the unwanted music.

This program is sweet because if you explore every feature there is some cool stuff.

COOL STUFF:

Place your mouse over all the icons on the toolbar (read, common sense of what they mean).

I use the Equalizer feature and use the "PRESETS" and reduce bass. This helps out a lot.

When finished File>Save as>.wav (arrow up to find the .wav file to save as)

Open up in CMX Studio and edit!

Here's what works for most sounds to get them to sound clear to save them as a wav file and use as a pmd.

First thing, pick a sound that is clear, and simple. If it's a song with a lot of sounds/music in the background it's going to sound really distorted as a ringtone. Songs where the voice really stands out sound best.

Open your sound file and edit it to a max of 17 seconds.
Right click, [set as finish] to highlight the beginning of a sound (you can drag it right or left). Hit your delete button to delete the highlighted section.
Right click, [Set as start] to highlight and delete the end of a sound.

Hit the [equalizer] button or at the top hit Effect/Filter/Equalizer.

Pull the 60Hz, 150Hz, and 400Hz all the way down to the bottom. That'll take out most of the bass.

Then hit the [Change Volume] button (looks like a little clock) or at the top hit Efect/Volume/Change. This will take some playin to get used to. Use the pulldown arrow to set the number that will make most of the waves in the graph go all the way to the top and bottom. Too much and it'll sound distorted, too little and your ringer wont be loud enough.

At the top [File] [Save As] a wav.

Insert into CMX studio and make your pmd ringtone.
If your sound file isn't clear after that, it probably wont sound good as a ringtone with any amount of tweeking.

I've been using Audacity and been really frustrated with it as I can't seem to set markers that stay in place. I'm guessing I can just do a search on google for goldwave? Also, assuming, knowing you guys, this is a free tool? Otherwise, where do I get it? Thanks! Tracey

www.goldwave.com

It's not really freeware but they give you about 3000 uses before they ask you to buy it. Even then you can just go into your system regestry, delete it and reinstall.

If you want to save stuff as mp3's you'll need to download the lame file also. Just follow the instructions on the download page.

Not saying I would, but if I were to uninstall Goldwave then hit [Start], Run, and open regedit, then I'd look under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then in Software, then if I were looking, which I'm not, I'd find Goldwave and delete it. But I wouldn't do that and I'm not telling anyone else how to do it, that wouldn't be right.
