HOW TO MAKE QCP Ringer WAY better than PMD & MIDI
« Thread Started on Mar 15, 2005, 7:40pm »

qcp files work on the A670 I have uploaded a ton.

1.Download the Qualacom Pure voice convertor and extract it to a folder on your PC. http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/products/purevoice_download.jsp

2. Open an MP3 in Goldwave and edit out a 30 second sound clip. You will need to save the file as a WAV file and save it in the same folder as the Qualacom Pure voice convertor.exe. Save it as "PCM unsigned 16bit mono".

3. Open the folder you put the wav and Purevoice coverter in. Drag the wav file over the Pvc.exe program icon and it will make a QCP file. Yea that's it, you don't need to open the Pvc.exe at all, just drag and drop the wav over it and the new qcp file will show up in the same folder.

4. Use the header program found at http://www.sendmefile.com/00527129
Just open the program, click the [Select Input] button and pick the newly made QCP file. The click the [Save File] button, and the new file should show up in the same folder. [Exit]. The new file won't have a file extention to it (it doesn't need it, and shouldn't have it)

5. I use Gagin or you can use the file view in bitpim and add the file to the mms_melody folder (NOT THE BREW/RINGER FOLDER). If you use bitpim you HAVE to use the file view, you can't just add them with the normal easy to use GUI (graphic user interface).

7. Restart phone.

When it starts back up set you ringtones to the people on your contact list. ;D

Be advised that if you did not use the header program to add a header to your file, you will see and hear corrupted data when you listen to your ringtones, or you may not see them on your phone at all. When you see them in the normal ringer view of bitpim the first letter of the file name will be gone also.

I finally registered to this site as it has been VERY helpful in showing me how to make ringtones for my A-670. Thank you everyone who has contributed to getting around the crappy GIN. I too am wondering the same as btrocks. At first I thought I was crazy but every since I switched from PMD ringers to QCP ringers my battery BARELY lasts at all. Coincidence? If not, how could the different files make a difference in battery usage? Anyone?

I have finally completed the process of conversion on a mac!
- Edit 30 sec. clip in Sound Studio
- Resample @ 8.0Khz 16 bit, mono
- Open Virtual PC
- Open in PureVoice - Convert -> .qcp -> save
- Open in a670Head - Save!
- email to ***-***-****@vzwpix.com (Verizon)

In response to SJT79 about battery life..............

I made 2 ringers this way and put them on my phone via cable.

The ones I made sounded pretty good....BUT........within 2 hours in standby mode.............my phone shut down.............low battery! The phone was very warm as if it were in use?

I have read about this issue in other places. I deleted the ringers and now the battery is back to normal?

Anyone have any idea what went wrong? I really liked my ringers and had planned on making more.......BUT.......

Lenny

Hmmmm, perhaps this is the cause of all of my battery problems. I just recently got my phone and had to return it twice because I would only get like 6 hours of battery life after a full charge. I cant see how a ringtone could cause this though, especially since my phone is on vibrate most of the day.

I had a similar battery problem after loading qcp files but after a couple of charging cycles the battery life returned to normal and I use the qcp's as ringtones.

I have noticed that whenever I transfer a lot data to the phone (using a charging or regular usb cable) the battery life seems to drop for a cycle or 2 of charges.

I have noticed this as well. After the transfer, it almost immediately goes down to 1 bar, then it shuts down after about an hour or so. After charging, it goes to 2 bars within hours, but it still lasts for 3-4 days in standby, and I can usually get an hour of talktime within that period as well.
