How to use CMX studio to make pmd
« Thread Started on Jan 9, 2005, 1:54pm »

1. Click here for a step by step walk through on how to make a pmd ringtone It's a word document so you'll have to open or save/open it.

2. After you make the pmd file click here.

Hi Bob,

I've been trying to use CMX to create a ringtone and everything up tho the point of putting the infinite loop works fine. However, when I try to add the infinite loop it won't let me set the start time to match the wav file start time. Am I missing something? Am I correct in thinking that if the start and stop time of the infinite loop does not match the start and stop time of the wave, that the ringtone will not work.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm new to this, so bear with me: can I make wav files from my CDs, or do I need to find them online?

Yes just use Goldwave to edit 17 seconds out of your songs and save as a wav.

Cmx studio will compress it to much less when you save the file. Also you can switch the wave to mono instead of stereo to cut the file size. Probably need to cut the bass also.

Yea, it doens't really matter what the size of the wav is only the time. At 17 or less you should end up with a pmd file that is at or under 30kb when you save the pmd.

What format do you use?
I have successfully made a pmd, but it sounds bad.
When I imported the wav into CMX, it said that it would degrade the quality and it did.

Thanks

Sorry, that question was worded funny.
I really want to know what wav format that you save them under. When I go to save in Gold Wave, there are several dozen to chose from. Is one better than an other?

PCM signed 16 bit, mono. But as stated in the walkthrough, if the sound isn't clear to start with it's going to get way worse when you try to make it a ringtone. Music with singing will get all cramed together and sound like crap. It's best to use one or the other.

Do the pmd's play on your computer with CMX player?
Do you have Verizon?
If so email them to me and I'll see if they work on mine.

what are you using to send ringers to the phone? I had the same problem with Bitpim. I changed to qpst and renamed .pmd to .mid now they play. Trouble is they sound like crap! I tried everything in this forum and haven't had success making one that sounds good. A friend of mine has a LG vx7000. All you have to do with his is rename .mp3 to .mid and it plays and sounds fine. Maybe changing fones b4 long :~(

Hi,

I used the instructions to make my own pmd and it worked great. I use bitpim to put on my a670 and it plays and everything but it really quiet. Is there something I can to to make them louder. I turned the volume bar on CMX to 100%. I have my ringer volume all the way up on my phone and I almost have to put my ear to the speaker to hear it. Any help would be great.

CF

PS This forum is awesome.

When your sound is a wav file use Goldwave or a different audio editor to make it louder.

Can someone PLEASE post a sample gcd file to use with a pmd. I can make the pmd files no problem and transfer them to my phone, but when i try to play it in the ringers folder... it says 'would you like to get the content from the web', or something like that. I think i have created the gcd file correctly, but if someone could post one that they know works, it would be most appreciated....

or if i'm doing something totally wrong, let me know.

You may want to add that *.wav file names are limited to eight standard chars. and the pmd file name as well. this came from experience

If you are a Bitpim user, there is a simple way of using that, you just need a PVC*.exe application that I have at home, plus the URL that tells you how to do it. For details just PM me, and when I get home I will obtain the info, and post it. But if I don't get PM I wont' remember.

This happened to me too, I fixed it by selecting CMX 2.X in the PMD File Properties in BitPim then it played fine, hope that helps.

I have a new question.... Probably has an easy answer... I just downloaded about 20 pmd files from the yahoo group each file is about 25- 28 KB.... The icon has a picture of a "music note" on the top left and an "A" at the bottom right..... When i double click on it to hear the sample an error message pops up saying..."whateversong.pmd is not a valid Win32 application"...... I have CMX studio and Player.... Any idea y i CAN NOT hear the sample?????? Thanks, Seth
